Meril is the name that comes to mind at the moment when discussing domestic cosmetics made in Bangladesh. Let’s take a look back a few years. When discussing pure coconut oil for hair, Jui pure coconut oil comes to mind. Radhuni spice powder is essential to any home cooking. Now let’s turn to the opposite side. Have a fever? The answer lies in paracetamol. We hunt for Adovase syrup in the pharmacy to treat colds and coughs. Ever wonder how these commonplace items have gotten so ingrained in our daily lives? This is the key to the Square Group’s success. You were correct. The products that I listed are all Square products. Let’s learn about the beginnings of this renowned national company:
Square Group’s Inception
Square Group Limited is a prominent and well-known business in Bangladesh with operations in a wide range of industries, including media, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage. In 1958, three friends and Samson H. Chowdhury launched the business. Initially, this Square just required a 20,000 taka investment. Square Group is now a massive business organization with an annual revenue of over 11,160 crore taka solely because of their dedication and hard work. The fact that Square’s assets are growing at a geometric rate validates the meaning of its name.
The founder and the core leadership
The main factor in Square Group’s growth was Samson H. Chowdhury, who borrowed money from his father to launch “Ataikula E Sons,” a small pharmaceutical business in Pabna. His foresight, leadership, and business sense have helped Square reach its current position. Radhabindu Roy gave over ownership of the company in 1971, but his coworkers Kazi Harunur Rashid, PK Saha, and Roy remained partners. Swapan, Tapan, and Anjan Chowdhury, the three sons of Samson Chowdhury, are currently in charge of the business.
Company Growth and Variability
Even though Square Group began as a pharmaceutical company, it has steadily grown into many industries, including media, banking, consumer goods, healthcare, and hygiene. They first came to market with the brand “Jui” coconut oil, which subsequently introduced “Meril” soap and other goods. These days, Meril sells adult cosmetics as well as creams, lotions, oils, and shampoos for children.
As the company established textile plants and spinning mills in Habiganj, Mymensingh, and Gazipur, its operations gradually grew more varied. In addition, Square Hospital has grown into a successful frontline facility that offers high-quality healthcare and reinvests its earnings.
International Expansion
Square Group is not limited to Bangladesh. At the moment, they export medications to 42 nations in South America, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the United Kingdom. To increase its market share in Asia, Square Group established a pharmaceutical facility in Kenya and a new business in the Philippines. These actions have contributed to Square’s growth into a multinational corporation.
Recognition and Financial Contribution
Square Group is one of Bangladesh’s largest taxpayers and has significantly boosted the nation’s economy. Today’s Square Group of Industries is well-known for its high-quality goods and services in addition to its steady growth from strategic investments.
Even today, Square Group Limited is a perfect example. They have become a global corporation as a result of their vision, leadership, and strategic focus. It is no surprise that Square Group will grow and achieve far greater heights in the future, as his children are currently carrying on the Square that Samson H. Chowdhury left behind.
