A. K. M. Fahim Mashoor: BDJobs’s first beginnings

The internet revolution in Bangladesh began in 2000 when BDJobs.com introduced online job news to the youth. It is currently Bangladesh’s biggest job website. Besides, it is acknowledged as the first and most well-known job platform in Bangladesh. Also, BDJobs’ creator, Fahim Mashoor, is a trailblazing businessman whose innovative innovations have streamlined the job search process for candidates.

How BDJobs Got Started

When the internet and information technology were still relatively new in Bangladesh in 1999, Fahim Mashroor envisioned a platform that would make it simple for companies to hire workers and for job seekers to find opportunities that fit their needs. Newspapers were the only source of job postings at the time. A job seeker had to gather numerous newspapers because, even in those days, no single newspaper carried all of the job news. Fahim and six of his friends started BDJobs to overcome this issue.

Initially, they gathered data from numerous newspapers and posted it on their website. Fahim began BDJobs with two workers in his home’s drawing room. He invested 15 lakh taka in the first three years.

There were no more investments required of Fahim and his friends. Fahim began contacting several corporates after three years, as individuals began to visit BDJobs. Fahim made them realize that hiring new staff costs a lot of money. On the other hand, they can promote their job openings on BDJobs for a significantly cheaper price if they’d like.

In Dhaka, Fahim Mashroor was born.  He passed his matriculation from Ideal High School and then his HSC from Notre Dame College. Following that, The founder of BDJobs Fahim earned his MBA from Dhaka University’s IB and his honors and master’s degrees in economics from Dhaka University. His family was middle class. His parents both were government employees. Fahim claims that at the time, young people desired to work for domestic companies, banks, or multinational corporations. He also said that young people traveling overseas was a popular trend at the time.  Fahim never had much interest in working from nine to five. He was always inclined to think creatively, even as a student. And it inspired the creation of today’s BDJobs. “Ajker Deal” is an online shopping mall that he also started.

Current BDJobs situation

“We have about 200,000 users who use our platform every day to find jobs,” stated Fahim, the founder of BDJobs. It is estimated that between 50,000 and 60,000 businesses in the country are currently using BDJobs advertisements to find employees. BDJobs’ operations are currently managed by around 300 individuals.

The secret of BDJobs’ prosperity

The straightforward and intuitive BDJobs interface is the key to its success. In the same way that firms can advertise at a cheap cost, job searchers can readily and freely access information about different employment. BDJobs hasn’t collected any money from job searchers thus far. Candidates for jobs can see job postings that interest them first by creating an account in their name if they so choose. All things considered, the ease of use and simplicity of BDJobs have led to its widespread popularity.
