Furthermore, let’s say there is nothing in the house to amuse an unexpected visitor. Anything you want can be ordered. Customers now have access to the grocery market thanks to Chaldal.com.
Chaldal, which was established in 2013, has completely transformed Bangladesh’s e-grocery market. The firm was established in Dhaka, with Zia Ashraf, Waseem Alim, and Tejas Viswanath serving as co-founders. Founded to bring high-quality goods to consumers’ doorsteps, Chaldal has grown into a reputable and client-focused e-commerce platform. They are now raising approximately USD 14.8 million in fundraising, with the help of investors like 7 Percent Ventures, Cherubic Ventures, and International Finance Corporation.
Chaldal’s journey
2012. Zia Ashraf, a co-founder of Chaldal, is the head of operations of a factory that produces ready-made garments. He considered starting something fresh with the manufacturing workers after observing their poor pay and unfavorable working circumstances. Together with his buddies Waseem and Tejas, he created a business plan to make this vision a reality.
They first considered establishing a factory for ready-made garments, but they dropped the idea following the Rana Plaza tragedy. The following year, Zia began considering e-commerce as the idea of digital business gained global traction. He intended to supply grocery items in Dhaka based on this concept. The company’s name, Chaldal, is derived from everyday staples like pulses and rice.
Being a new type of business, Chaldal initially faced several difficulties. However, Zia’s prior employment in the clothing sector greatly aids in both commercial management and quality control. By selling items that are certified by BSTI and securing agreements with reliable suppliers, they establish a distinctive standard in the market.
Chaldal is currently renowned as an e-commerce platform that benefits those with special needs. His commitment to the Zia family’s special-needs brother prompted him to create a platform that caters to hearing and speech-impaired customers through chat options.
Pandemic-related business expansion
People can get their everyday needs at home with Chaldal. As an outcome, supermarket shopping no longer requires individuals to go outside. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, which prevented people from going to the market, Chaldal’s business flourished. It got about 16,000 orders during the lockdown, compared to an average of 2,500 orders each day before the epidemic. Chaldal quickly expanded its warehouse and crew to satisfy this demand. During the pandemic, a lot of people relied on Chaldal’s services, and the company kept expanding while keeping up its level of service quality.
Chaldal’s sustainable approach
To guarantee quality, Chaldal has a direct deal with BSTI and purchases fresh vegetables from nearby farmers. They support other business owners’ steady market growth.
The organization’s “Chaldal Vegetable Network” is a different project. where their produce is picked up from farmers and delivered to consumers. At costs that are comparable to the market pricing, they also guarantee the quality of the goods and offer their clients high-quality services.
Chaldal’s future
Today, Chaldal has established a standard for startup businesses in Bangladesh. By upholding its principles, the company has achieved the highest level of success and serves as an example for other entrepreneurs.
